Exam and retake fees
Salesforce's certification catalog lists the Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator registration fee as USD 200 plus applicable taxes, or JPY 30,000. The same page lists the retake fee as USD 100 plus applicable taxes, or JPY 15,000. The pricing article groups this exam with the other administrator exams at those same amounts, tax excluded. Checked October 29, 2026.
Registration now goes through a voucher. Salesforce's voucher FAQ says the Pearson VUE Salesforce Exam Voucher Store opened on July 21, 2025, and that anyone can buy a voucher there at full price. Vouchers expire 12 months after purchase and the expiration cannot be extended. The same FAQ says exam vouchers cannot be returned and all sales are final. At exam checkout on Trailhead Academy, you enter the voucher in the field labeled Add Voucher or Promo Code. Checked October 29, 2026.

Retake promotion 2026 to 2027
Salesforce's help page confirms a free retake promotion. You opt in, then schedule, pay for, and take an eligible exam between September 29 and November 17, 2026. If you do not pass that attempt, one free retake can be scheduled and taken from January 4 to April 7, 2027. The page says the promo covers standard full-price exams at $200 and $400, and that it excludes the Salesforce Certified Technical Architect exam and Accredited Professional exams. The promo code from the opt-in email is not usable before September 29, 2026, and you must opt in before you schedule the first attempt. Checked October 29, 2026. Salesforce Certification Exam Retake Promotion (2026/2027).
Certification maintenance
Salesforce's maintenance page says the Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator requires the Platform Administrator certification maintenance badge on Trailhead once a year, on the Spring release cycle. If you miss the deadline, the certification expires or, in some cases, is suspended. That page does not list a maintenance fee. Trailhead's own FAQ says all Trailhead content is free. Checked October 29, 2026.
Training cost: free vs paid
Trailhead is free. Salesforce's FAQ answers "Does Trailhead cost anything?" with no, and says all Trailhead content is available for free. Paid prep is optional. This page does not list course prices. Compare current course options on best Salesforce admin courses. Checked October 29, 2026.
Cost outside the US
The official pricing article lists the administrator exam as USD 200, or JPY 30,000 if you reside in Japan, tax excluded. The retake is USD 100 or JPY 15,000. It says certification exams are taxable under local law and that Pearson collects the tax at registration. It does not publish an India price or any other currency. Check the voucher store for your country. Checked October 29, 2026.
Total cost scenarios
| Path | What you pay |
|---|---|
| Self-study, exam only | $200 plus tax. Trailhead is free. |
| Self-study plus one retake | $200 exam plus $100 retake. Those two fees add up to $300 before tax. The 2026 to 2027 promotion can make one retake free if you qualify. |
| Paid prep course plus the exam | Exam $200 plus tax. Course cost varies, see our course comparison. |
Fees checked October 29, 2026 on Salesforce's pricing article. The $300 figure is those two listed fees added together. Salesforce does not publish that sum as its own price.
Is it worth it?
The exam is the credential Salesforce lists for people who administer the platform. The fee is separate from training: you can sit it after free Trailhead, or after a paid course, and the exam price does not change.
A retake is an extra $100 unless the current promotion covers you. Maintenance is a yearly Trailhead badge, not another exam fee on the maintenance page.
Whether that spend is worth it depends on the job you want, not on a salary claim this page will not make. Read how to become a Salesforce admin for the path, and use the course page only if you want paid prep.
